Armed Man Shot After Acting 'Suspicious' Near Long Beach Airport

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- An armed man allegedly acting in a "suspicious" manner near Long Beach Municipal Airport was wounded in a shootout with airport security officers, authorities said Monday. The 27-year-old Long Beach man was shot about 11:30 last night in the parking lot of a gas station at Lakewood Boulevard and Douglas Drive, on the east side of the airport, the Long Beach Police Department reported. Paramedics took the man to a hospital for surgery. His condition and name were not immediately released. Neither security officer was injured. The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation.

Breaking: Jet Blue emergency landing, Long Beach, CA (UPDATE: Plane Landed Safely)

A Jet Blue aircraft just did a low altitude flyby of Long Beach airport after reporting some concern with their forward gear. The television helicopter caught an image of it - the gear is turned sideways and tilted. Aircraft is heading out towards the ocean to drop fuel, will turn around, and attempt a 'soft field' landing, keeping the nose up as long as possible.
